What is coaching? Well, it’s like riding a bike.

People are often curious about coaching. What is it? What happens? Why do I need a coach? I answer in different ways, as each person is unique and has their own wants and needs for coaching.  Overall, it helps you get unstuck and moving forward into your life's greatest potential!

But “what is it like?” they ask.

Well, it's a little like this…

You walk into a bicycle shop and purchase your first brand new bike. How exciting! You are ready to go, to have fun, to explore new places, but first you need to learn how to ride the bike. The bicycle store has three people that can help you - a consultant, a therapist and a coach. They all approach you. The consultant hands you the manual with a report about the best ways to learn to ride your bike. Really useful info, thanks! The therapist then stands with you and discusses your new purchase and your feelings towards it. All this is helpful as you consider trying to ride the bike. Lastly, the coach approaches you. “Let's go outside,” she says and you follow. “Hop on!” You get on and start to wobble, feeling a little scared. “Just play with it,” she says. “Hold this experience lightly. I will hold the bike as you get on and then run along side so you won't crash. Give it a try!” You manage a few very unsteady feet but don't fall off. “What was your experience riding like?” she says. “Fantastic, I rode my bike!” you say.

“YOU DID! Now, what do you want?” The world of bike riding is open for you. Can you imagine the possibility!

Now, substitute bike riding for a new perspective, moving ahead with a long held goal, richer relationships, and exploring your life’s greatest potential. You and your coach work together to create a space where this becomes possible. This is what coaching is like.
