Second Spring! It’s YOUR time!
As Mary Oliver said in her famous poem, “The Summer Day,” “What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” As I approached my 50th birthday, this question spun around and around in my head and a voice kept repeating, “It's time, it's time!!”
More women in their 50’s and 60s are waking to their “Second Spring''. A time when life's purpose is refreshed. Wisdom and experience are celebrated. Health and vitality are claimed. Satisfaction and joy are experienced deeply.
This post is the first in a series of “Second Spring Stories” featuring women at all stages of their Second Spring.
What is your Second Spring?
As I started my coaching practice last year, women of my age started to reach out. They described this time in their lives...and it had so many uncanny similarities
“Returning to Yourself.”
I’ll admit it…I am a life-long collector of quotes. From my earliest teenage days, I wrote out countless poems, quotes or songs that spoke to me. I filled out a succession of notebooks, diaries with the little locks (remember those?), lined paper stapled together. Graph paper. Post it notes. These days I seem to capture the quotes with my cell phone camera.
The Gift of Uncertainty
It was stressful enough that my 93-year-old mother was hospitalized with a stroke, but now we discovered she had shared a room for two days with an active COVID patient. Also, I had spent almost every afternoon for the past two weeks with my mom, so I too was exposed. So yes, the COVID test is not fun but I am not suffering like my mother is. I could write a blog post just on my admiration for the workers doing these tests day-in day-out. But I digress.
What is coaching? Well, it’s like riding a bike.
People are often curious about coaching. What is it? What happens? Why do I need a coach? I answer in different ways, as each person is unique and has their own wants and needs for coaching. Overall, it helps you get unstuck and moving forward into your life's greatest potential!
